New to Bloom?

Taking your first steps to seeing a therapist can be mentally and emotionally difficult.

This page will help guide you through the process of what you can expect, if this is your first time accessing a psychologist.

To make an appointment, you can phone, email, or reach out here. We will contact you to gather some initial details about yourself and book an appointment time and date. You can also specify if you would prefer a face to face or online session.

Once booked, you will receive an email confirming your appointment time and date. If the appointment is online, you will be sent a link with a code, for a private and secured telehealth session.

If you selected face to face, you will visit our residential location in Western Sydney, which has ample street parking and bus stops nearby.

Experiences of psychotherapy and counselling can vary depending on the psychologist, the client, and the problems being addressed. There are many different ways to treat different issues (called “treatment modalities”).

All therapeutic interventions involve talking about the issues you are seeking help for, and other aspects of your life. Successful therapy requires commitment from the client to actively participate openly and honestly with the therapist in session, and often doing work at home (such as practicing skills, or recording thoughts or emotions).

Sometimes these discussions can be about unpleasant aspects of your life, leading to  uncomfortable feelings (such as anger, guilt, shame, sadness, frustration, loneliness, or helplessness). Despite this, there is much evidence to suggest that therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of distress.  But, there are no guarantees as to what you will experience.

If you have questions about your treatment, you can discuss them with your clinician.
